Preamble
We, the members of Walton High School SSNHS, declare our fidelity to the rules and regulations of Walton High School and establish this Constitution to govern the matters within our organization
Article I: Title
The title of our organization shall be Walton High School Chapter of the National Social Studies Honor Society.
Article II: Mission
Our purpose is to ferment the passion for social studies beyond the bounds of Walton High School. We strive to promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies in secondary school environments and the community. Our goals are to to provide through its local chapters opportunities for exploration in the social studies in secondary school environments and the community and to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.
Article III: Powers
The constitution can be amended based on a simple majority vote taken from the board which must be approved by the sponsor. The members will then be notified of the changes accordingly.
Article IV: Meetings
Meetings will be held on the first Friday morning of every month at 7:45 in the sponsor’s classroom. Officer meetings will be conducted twice a month starting on February 18th, 2016 either in a scheduled conference room or in the sponsor’s classroom.
Article V: Membership
Membership will be granted based on GPA, passion for Social Studies, and demonstrated interest in membership. Any student who has cheated in a social studies class will not be considered for membership. Members must be rising juniors or above, and acceptance once will ensure membership for the remaining period of time in high school, given that all requirements of membership are continually met.
Reasons for removal of a member from the society will include failure to rectify behavior after being put on probation and cheating in a social studies class after they are granted membership will be removed from the honors society.
A student will be deemed to be on probation if the number of hours required to volunteer are not met or if two meetings are skipped without prior knowledge of an excuse.
An officer may be removed from for the same reasons as any other member or if he/she is unable to carry on duties of office properly. This will be voted on by a simple majority from the vote and approved by the sponsor.
Article VI: Dues
Dues will be capped at a maximum of $51 and will be decided upon annually by the board. Dues must be paid annually.
Article VII: Officers and Duties

Future board members will be decided through an application and then an interview. Prospective board members will first fill out an application that will be reviewed by all of the current board members, and then the current board members will vote on who is eligible to receive an interview. Elections will be held every spring. There is no limit on the number of terms for board members, but students who are board members one year are not guaranteed re-election.
During interviews, an observer and the incumbent of the position will interview the prospective board member for that position. If a current board member is re-applying for the same position they will be interviewed by the president, unless the office sought is a second term presidency, in which they will be interviewed by the sponsor.)

Activities and projects will be determined on a yearly basis based on the national politics of the time. The year will begin with events such as the voter registration drive to encourage more people to vote and will continue activities around the community as needed.

- The President shall serve as the chair of all meetings.
- The President shall ensure the officers are following through with their duties.
- The Vice President shall serve as the primary assistant to the President.
- The Vice President shall execute the duties of the President if he or she is unable to serve.
- The Vice President shall be involved in publicity for the club through tasks such as flyers and information distribution.
- The Secretary shall be responsible for the record keeping of the club and general members of the honors society, with duties ranging from taking minutes to hours logging,
- The Secretary shall execute the duties of the President should the Vice-President and President be unable to serve.
- The Parliamentarian is the primary authority on the constitution.
- The Parliamentarian shall also assist the secretary in record keeping for the club.
- The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining accurate records of expenses and profits incurred to the club.
- The Treasurer is also expected to develop and plan fundraisers.
- The Historian shall be the primary manager of all photo and video records of the club.
- The Historian shall assist the Vice President in his or her publicity duties.
